Scientific Archive

The Zentrum Paul Klee is the central research facility into the life, work and influence of Paul Klee.

The Archive of the Zentrum Paul Klee is both a collection of original documents and an extensive scientific documentation. It contains important Paul Klee manuscripts and collects documents on his life and work.

The Archive is a collection, research and information facility, all in one. It represents a body of knowledge available to experts and laypeople alike in all matters relating to Paul Klee and, at the same time, provides the information and work resources necessary for any study of the life and work of Paul Klee and for communicating the artist and his work. The scientific archive is open to students, scientists, specialist users and also amateurs with an interest in the topic. On request and by prior arrangement originals can be viewed in a study room every Thursday afternoon (Graphic Art Viewing Room).

All the Archive sections at the Zentrum Paul Klee are continually being expanded and complemented, mainly as a result of research work conducted by the Archive’s personnel. Sometimes the Archive benefits from finds submitted from the outside. We are very grateful for such chance finds and are always delighted whenever members of the Bern public or descendants of past friends and acquaintances of Paul Klee come forward with information or even documents for us.
