Welcome to the Creaviva children’s museum!

“Art does not reproduce the visible; it makes visible.” Paul Klee

The Creaviva is the only children’s museum in the world to focus its attention on the work of a single artist.

It is where children and young people – come to that, anyone young at heart of whatever age! – can come to immerse themselves and find their own paths through Paul Klee’s creative universe, with its wealth of intermingling shapes and forms, colours and sounds and its fascination with theatre and literature. Experience art in a whole new dimension!

All you need is a sense of curiosity and all five senses to explore and experience the world according to Paul Klee and uncover your hidden talents.

Workshops, forums, tours of the museum, tailored events – the range of possibilities on offer is as broad and subtle as Paul Klee’s colour palette.

The temporary interactive exhibitions – free to all – with several workstations are designed to stimulate your powers of observation, your skills and imagination.

In the open studio we follow Paul Klee’s tracks as we paint on jute, make plaster models, print and stamp. An hour of creativity is all it takes to turn YOU into an artist!

Welcome – and on with our colourful adventure!

Cornerstone-laying ceremony.

Prof. Maurice E. Müller, the doctor, teacher and researcher, is passionate about sharing the joy of knowledge. He believes we can create a better world through teaching and learning, educating and training. He sees the Creaviva as a key component of the Zentrum Paul Klee – hence in 2002 he got together with his daughter, Janine Aebi-Müller, to establish the Fondation du Musée des Enfants auprès du Centre Paul Klee foundation.

Since it opened in June 2005 the Creaviva children’s museum has established itself as a place of proactive and innovative art interpretation. Interactive temporary exhibitions with a multimedia bias and spacious studios are open to all those wanting to roll up their sleeves and explore Paul Klee’s contribution to art as well as their own creative potential.

The Creaviva is a lively venue where every visitor acts both as participant and artist.

“Paul Klee is not someone you can simply contain inside an ordinary building. An artist with so much depth needs plenty of scope. That’s why we tried to express Paul Klee’s creative nature through an unusual, gentle architecture which in turn plays with nature.” Renzo Piano
