Year after year, the two-time ECHO prize winner Albrecht Mayer delights his audiences with unusual concept albums. Listeners and critics alike have fallen under his lyrical spell. The talk is of the «spark of the Gods» , the «wondrous oboe», and that Mayer elevates the oboe to an instrument of seduction. The principal oboist of the Berlin Philharmonic is in demand as a soloist all over the world and, in his quest for a personal sound-ideal, founded his own ensemble, the New Seasons. Albrecht Mayer has set himself the task not only of presenting the familiar oboe repertoire, but also of charting new territory for the instrument. Supported by Andreas N. Tarkmann he has adapted music from a different genre for the oboe, the oboe d’amore and the cor anglais. «Andreas Tarkmann and I always try and modify the original works ever so gently that, in the end, the listener has the feeling that it has always been that way.»
