Exkursion Weekend 8-9 August 2009

Saturday, 8.8. Day One of Expedition Morning session in St.Gallen Hosted by the Sitterwerk: Following the closure of the textile dyeing factory Sitterthal various studios came into existence, for artists from various fields, including foundries and bookmaking. During the past five years these initiatives have led to the foundation of the Sitterwerk, a centre for art production that includes various projects such as studio residencies and an arts library open to the public. . Afternoon session in Appenzell Hiking tour hosted by the APPENZELLBIENNALE Because Appenzell is not modern, having refused to partake in the great revolutions (Copernicus, France 1789, Marx and Freud), because nature is still the center of the World Picture here, mixed with Catholicism, and all the glitterglotter and the Jesus-Mountaineers that go with it, because the mountains tower over everything and the course of nature is the highest commandment here, because of all this, we shall first visit Agathe Nisple, the covert Minister of Culture, because of this we shall go hiking and spelunking and more. In Appenzell the cultural flow is as slow as the earth’s outer crust, and that is why cautious progression and comfortable hiking is the precondition for the sheer possibility of integration und influence. APPENZELLBIENNALE: In 2002, curator Christiane Rekade from Speicher, artist Emanuel Geisser from Gais and artist Peter Stoffel from Herisau founded the AppenzellBiennale. The objective is to organize an international exhibition in the Appenzellerland, which faces the twin poles of the Appenzell landscape and the big biennial event. To yield a large crop the landscape needs to be farmed. Sunday, 9.8. Day Two of expedition Morning session: Hiking tour part II. Afternoon Session Guided tour of Kunsthalle St. Gallen by Giovanni Carmine, director Barbecue hosted by the Kunsthalle St. Gallen
