 A dyslectic exercise on the paradox of absence and disappearance in the field of art

(a.k.a Archiving Disappearance)

Krist Gruijthuijsen is an independent curator based in Amsterdam who has organized numerous of national and international projects such as We all laughed at Christopher Columbus, Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam and Platform Garanti, Istanbul (2006), More stories on absence, Extra City, Antwerp (2006),  Forms of refusal, Van Abbemuseum/Stedelijk Museum (2006), Novella (not yet another story), Halle für kunst, Lüneburg (2007), Movies without pictures, Swiss Institute, New York, The potential of self-absorption, Belgrade Contemporary Art Museum (Salon) (2007), Matter of Fact, Manifesta 7 (2008), Object, The Undeniable success Of Operations, Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam (2008) and Curtain Raiser, Marres, Centre for Contemporary Culture (2008). He was curatorial advisor for Manifesta 7, Trentino/Südtirol/ Alto Adige and currently advisory member of the Mondriaan Foundation, the Foundation of Visual Art in the Netherlands(Fonds BKVB) and the Artist Pension Trust. He has given lectures throughout Europe and occasionally writes for magazines such as Metropolis M and Idea Art+Society.

Gruijthuijsen is currently preparing two publications: Encyclopaedia of Fictional Artists/ The Addition for JRP Ringier and The Absolute together with November Paynter for Sternberg Press. In the Fall, he will open, together with Maxine Kopsa, a domestic franchise entitled Kunstverein in Amsterdam while also starting his PhD candidacy at the Curating Department of the Royal College of Art in London
