Opening: Friday 29th May 2009, 6 p.m.
“Paul Klee. Carpet of Memory” is the second spring exhibition. It looks in greater depth at aspects of the art of the Orient, with a focus on architecture, calligraphy and ornamentation (especially with regard to textiles), as well as on Klee’s use of colour and technique in his watercolours.
Beyond the trip to Tunisia in 1914 and that to Egypt in the winter of 1928, the exhibition explores specific aspects relating to Klee’s interest in Arab and Islamic culture and how it is reflected in his oeuvre. Complementing Klee’s works on display are documents and photographs, as well as a large number of watercolours and drawings by his travelling companions, August Macke and Louis Moilliet.
Visitors to both exhibitions will also be able to discover the splendour of Islamic art in a special section arranged along historical lines.
