Dream and Reality. Contemporary Art from the Near East
28 February to 16 August 2009
Opening: Friday 27th February 2009, 6 p.m. Following the voyage through the past from Bellini to Klee, which the exhibition In Search of the Orient has taken us on, the Zentrum Paul Klee turns its attention to the work of a younger generation of artists living in today’s modern “Orient” with the exhibition Dream and reality. Contemporary art from the Middle East. This time, the voyage of discovery takes the visitor through the present-day Middle East, with works of a documentary character providing a contemporary and topical glance at the subject matter. The physical centre of the exhibition features an inner courtyard in the form of a multifunctional space for ephemeral, transient art such as installation performances, concerts and theatre. When no performances are taking place, the space is used as a lounge where visitors can relax and meditate on a variety of archives.
