The Sommerakademie Foundation at the Zentrum Paul Klee has a special offer within the scope of intermediary functions. Its fundamental objective is to provide young artists in Switzerland and abroad with an institutional platform. The main goal is to encourage artistic production and reflection through further education, development and contacts, and at the same time, to offer the public the opportunity to take part in this process within a parallel programme.
Since August 2006, the Sommerakademie Foundation at the Zentrum Paul Klee has been inviting artists to Bern every year for a ten-day, theme-related symposium, within a circle of selected personages of international cultural life. In addition to awarding project money, the Sommerakademie Foundation also puts on an exhibition with a specific annual theme. The contents and objectives of this theme are presented in an accompanying publication.
The Zentrum Paul Klee is keen to create a lively platform of instruction and cultural exchange in collaboration with the Sommerakademie, where the Zentrum`s activities are ideally complemented in the areas of contemporary art, music and art dialogue. The BEKB | BCBE (Cantonal Bank of Bern), founding partner of the Maurice E. and Martha Müller Foundation (MMMF), is sponsor of the Sommerakademie, and provides the capital necessary to guarantee that the programme will run, and project money be awarded, for ten years.
