1. Project phase The project to create and operate a centre dedicated to Paul Klee in the City of Bern is a joint venture by three public sector partners, namely the Canton (with main responsibility), City and Civic Community of Bern.
Strategic management At the start of the project in 1997 the three political institutions had set up a joint body for the strategic management, namely the Gesamtprojektausschuss Klee (Overall Project Committee Klee – GPAK). In September 2000 the Committee was replaced by the Stiftung Zentrum Paul Klee (Zentrum Paul Klee Foundation – SZPK); then still the Stiftung Paul Klee-Zentrum (Paul Klee-Zentrum Foundation – SPKZ).
Operational management During the initial phase of the project (1997–2001) the Gesamtprojektleitung Klee (Overall Project Management Klee – GPLK) was the operational body for the project organisation. On its appointment in August 2001 the Management of the Zentrum Paul Klee took over the functions of the former Gesamtprojektleitung Klee.
