Landscape Sculpture and agriculture

Annual crop rotations
The 2.5 hectares of Landscape Sculpture behind the building’s hills are put to agricultural use again. Planting is uniform and covers the entire usable land. While annual crop rotations are indicated for aesthetic reasons, they are also necessary to prevent the occurrence of pathogens when using ecological cultivation.

Winter barley, sunflowers, oats, rape
The appearance of the planted Landscape Sculpture will change with the seasons, which means that meadows as much as mature fields or freshly ploughed acreage need to blend in with the overall picture. A trial field at the northern end of the land gives an indication of the landscaping possibilities, particularly with regard to the influence of wild flowers scattered among the grain and cereal crops.
When the Zentrum Paul Klee opened in June 2005 the Landscape Sculpture was resplendent with the lime green of winter barley in early summer.

2006 rape was planted for its color and and for its seeds which yield rapeseed oil. The rape was grown, harvested and used according to organic farming principles; quality and taste of the rapeseed oil are praised by centers of competence and consumers alike.

Potential planting for later years includes sunflowers or oats.
