2002/2003, winter half-year: The Local Authorities of the Region agree to the cultural agreements

The final obstacle has been cleared: After the delegates of the Regional Cultural Conference of Bern the 84 Local Authorities of the Region also approved the new cultural agreements with the City of Bern during the winter half-year 2002/2003.

The 84 Local Authorities of the Region followed the example of the Regional Cultural Conference delegates on 15 August 2002, and during the winter half-year 2002/2003 agreed to the new cultural agreements with the City of Bern with the requisite two-thirds majority. This means the framework agreement between the Maurice E. and Martha Müller Foundation and the public sector has been observed.

Under the Regulations governing the Regional Cultural Conference of Bern  the resident community of the City of the Bern as centre community is entitled to demand a contribution towards the financing of their significant cultural institutions from the surrounding communities. According to the approved cultural agreement the subsidy of the 84 Local Authorities of the Region amounts to 11per cent of the total annual amount.

By financing the big five cultural institutes of Bern in this way (Municipal Theatre, Symphony Orchestra, Art Museum, Historical Museum, Zentrum Paul Klee) they contribute significantly to guaranteeing the normal operation of the Zentrum Paul Klee.

The Management of the Zentrum Paul Klee would like to take this opportunity to thank the delegates and the local authorities of the Regional Cultural Conference for their Yes to the new cultural agreement.
