Between randomness and intention: painting on textiles
Everything flows, everything casts a shadow. We run a brush dipped in ink over damp fabric and watch how the color spreads. We experiment with different textiles, stretch them on stretcher frames, and later remove them again. Inspired by Paul Klee's formal language and the air-blown ink stains of artist Sun Choi, we develop our own image ideas. We also take a look at the history and significance of ink painting. In various exercises, we explore how chance can be controlled and how we can respond to it in our painting. Step by step, abstract, representational, and minimalist paintings emerge on fabric, shaped by chance and our own expression, thus becoming unique works of art.
Some fabrics are available in the course. We recommend bringing your own textiles, such as old sheets, kitchen towels, clothing, or tablecloths, to expand your creative possibilities.
