With his singular and epic sound poem Sonata in Primeval Sounds (Sonate in Urlauten), Schwitters created both a poetic masterpiece and a seminal work of Dadaism. Inspired by fellow artist Raoul Hausmann, Schwitters developed Dadaist sound poetry further between 1922 and 1932, refining it into a rigorously composed form with the Primeval Sonata. He performed the work internationally and regarded it as one of his most important creations.
Live performance by Michael Schmid (musician, Brussels), a specialist in experimental music. With an introduction by Martin Waldmeier, curator of the exhibition, followed by a discussion. Limited capacity.
