Hearing Colours – Seeing Music

A collaboration between CAMERATA BERN and Creaviva

Music consists of melodies, rhythms and sounds that overlap and combine to form a polyphonic whole. In painting, too, lines, colours and shapes can interact to develop their own visual language.

Starting with live piano music, we create individual compositions. Lines and rhythmic fields form the initial visual structure, which we bring to life with transparent layers of colour. An additional layer adds depth to the composition, transforming it into a multifaceted work.

The workshop draws on Paul Klee’s understanding of polyphony and invites us to explore the connection between music and visual art in our own way. No previous experience is required.

At the end of the workshop, we view our creations together and exhibit them in front of the auditorium at Zentrum Paul Klee as a visual introduction to the subsequent concert Distant Light.
